The town of Balmaseda is the ideal place for leisure either on a tourist trip or a getaway for an excellent day just 20 minutes away from Bilbao. The parties, celebrations, interest points and parks and mountains of the place are the proof for the wonderful entertainment that holds the town.

The holidays are famous for their spectacular and its faithful historical and religious representation. Such is the case of the well-known Pasión Viviente that annually crowns the masterful Easter. The Via Crucis through the streets of Balmaseda brings closer the path of Jesus towards the cross in a performance that attracts thousands of people.

Also, the Medieval Market adorns each year the vintage village to travel through time to the most moving traditions of the town. Besides, we must add the Carnival, which has become very popular in recent years and has become the most famous of the region with its parade of floats, its festival of jokes, its contest of toasts and costumes, surrounded by the beautiful dectoration of the streets.

Leisure is set in the numerous parks and walks in the town. Restaurants and hotels serve for the restoration and rest of the visitors and citizens, but also to follow the traditional route of pintxos. Furthermore, the ascent to Kolitza concludes the Easter with a massive and spectacular climb to the highest mountain in the area.

The food is one of the strengths of the town. Apart from the famous pintxos, the traditional stew enriches this traditional culture that reaches its climax with a real delicacy as the Putxera and accompanied by the delicacy of a good local txakoli.
